Surf City
Torquay is the birthplace of global surf brands like Rip Curl and Quiksilver. Surfing gear, fashion and accessories: it’s all here. You can even have a surfboard custom-made. The Surf World Museum houses an amazing collection of surfing stories, events and exhibits.
Shopping
It’s not all surf. Torquay’s range of shops is vast – from designer boutiques to well-known chain stores. Wander down Gilbert Street, through Torquay Central and along Bell Street, to browse a great selection of fashion, gifts, homewares and more.
Family Frolics
Nowhere puts on a family beach day like Torquay. Cosy Corner at Torquay Front Beach and Torquay Surf Beach both offer great picnic areas and barbecues. Torquay Foreshore has plenty of shade and playgrounds for the little ones. Nearby is the Yellow Bluff children’s adventure park with coffee for the parents nearby.
The Great Outdoors
Torquay is all about the great outdoors – fresh air, booming surf and sparkling sand. It’s big on doing: walking, running, riding, walking the dog, skateboarding, outdoor cafe culture, fishing or sailing from Fishermans Beach boat ramp.
When you’re ready for more, try skydiving or a mountain bike tour. Have a crack at the Surf Coast Walk between Torquay and Aireys Inlet, incorporating the Koorie Cultural Walk and Torquay History Trail.
Ready for a dip? Try snorkelling at Point Addis, part of the Marine National Park and one of two clothing-optional beaches on the Surf Coast.
Beached out? Try a round of golf at the RACV Torquay Golf Course, The Sands Resort, or a hit of tennis at Spring Creek Reserve or the Bob Pettit Reserve in Jan Juc.
